I was the typical girl in the gym that everybody sees and knows. Spending countless hours on the treadmill and any other type of cardio the gym had. At the end of my workout I may have done some abs or a few sets of light weight arms and leg exercises, it's what some of us call "spot specific training". It didn't seem like for all the time I was spending in the gym I was looking the way I wanted. In fact, I seemed to have lost strength and energy and felt even softer and flabbier. The first thing Scott told me was that I needed to cut back on the cardio, eat more nutritious calories and start incorporating more weights in my training. I looked at him like he was crazy. Eat more, less cardio and start lifting heavier weights and I will loose weight? He explained the importance of eating the right amount of calories to sustain muscle and to raise my metabolism so that I burn fat all day long and not just in the gym. Scott analyzed my diet and made a meal plan that was specific for me and my goals. He had me doing light weight training and eventually increased the weights to raise my metabolism. He also showed me how to be efficient by doing the right duration of cardio at the right intensity so I trained my body to burn fat and not muscle. Scott taught me the efficient way to retrain my body to burn fat so I don't have to spend countless hours in the gym allowing me to spend more time doing the things I enjoy. It was amazing to see more changes in 1 month of training with Scott than 6 years doing it my way.

I have trained with Scott for over a year now. My goals were to tone my muscles and become lean without bulking up. Scott gave me the right exercises along with the right techniques, weight and reps to allow me to firm up without gaining to much muscle. Before I came to Scott at Lifelong Fitness I was really out of shape. I sat behind a desk all day with little to no exercise. Scott has educated me on the correct way to exercise and what exercises are right for me. I have a few health issues that make exercising a little difficult. I am seventeen years old and I came to Scott to improve my tennis game. I've been playing tennis for about two years and I really wanted to step up my game, so we started lifting weights, doing agility exercises, and tennis functional drills. Since this summer, when I started, I've noticed a significant improvement. I'm able to get to the ball faster and recover quickly, which is something I had struggled with before. I also have gained more power behind my strokes and can now utilize my legs, core, and arms to power through the ball like I had never been able to do before. When I retired 10 years ago, I had a goal of staying active for as long as possible. I attended fitness classes, joined a couple of gyms, tried a number of fitness trainers. But, I never stayed with any of them for very long --- the classes were never customized to my particular needs and abilities and the personal trainers had me do the same routines over and over every week. It was entirely different when I started training with you a number of years ago. Your enthusiasm energizes me to keep working and the variety in routines keeps me from getting bored. Most important, however, is your uncanny ability to visualize what the muscles are doing and to adapt exercises to fit individual needs. I think you are able to do this partly because you simply have a natural gift for this and enjoy what you are doing. But, you also continue to take classes to learn new techniques and to expand your knowledge into other fitness areas such as nutrition. I may complain a lot but I really do appreciate all your effort and genuine interest in my well being.

I can't say enough great things about Scott! I have been a personal trainer for 9 years, and must admit that I too, find it hard to stay motivated to work out and I need someone else to push me to help me get to my goals. I had fallen off the wagon and into a routine of working too much, not eating well and not working out. Last Summer I had somehow managed to be about 10 pounds heavier than normal and was teaching a boot camp. I made a bet with my boot campers that I had to lose more pounds inches and body fat than the winner for that month or else I'd have to refund all 9 of the enrollee's money back to them at the end. I needed someone to help me and quickly so I started meeting with Scott. He was so motivating, encouraging, and really knows the human body. He is extremely knowledgeable about everything from rehabilitation to putting on muscle mass and knows all the details about nutrition and weight loss. He knows exactly how to get you to your goals! We did some incredible workouts, things that I've never done as a trainer. I used the results from my Resting Metabolism Test to find the exact amount of calories I needed to be eating, and Scott kept me accountable by touching base on my eating, which was so helpful. Not only did I lose the 10 lbs that month and win the contest but I gained back my self confidence and was motivated to keep working out again! It was exactly the push I needed!I learned so much from Scott, he is truly like a walking text book! Now every time I find myself with a client or fitness question, I call him first. I was training for an obstacle course race and I started having some pain in my right knee. Scott did some flexibility and strength tests with me and figured out my problem within a few minutes. He showed me some stretches and strengthening exercises to do. After doing them a few days, I no longer have the pain in my knee and I'm able to continue my training.Scott has also taught me about eating healthy and also about eating enough to keep my metabolism high. Being 69 and 84 years of age we never thought we could benefit from any type of fitness program. Boy were we wrong. My husband Calvin who had a stroke 20 years ago was very limited in the things he was able to do. Scott modified Cal's program, working on his main weakness, which were his strength and balance. After a few months Cal's strength and balance had drastically increased and he began to walk much better. Me on the other hand, had problems walking due to chronic back pain. After years of physical therapy, I decided to try hiring a personal trainer. Scott started analyzing strength and weakness that started at my feet and went all the way up into my neck. After months of working with Scott and doing in home exercises, I noticed a huge decrease in pain in my lower back. My husband Cal and I have recently begun to travel again and could have never done it without the help of Scott and Lifelong Fitness.
